Speak to a local expert
Traditional hand crafted ultra premium wines by owner/winemaker Rob Gherardi and wife Kellie. Set on one of the most picturesque properties in Margaret River, overlooking the Calgardup Brook and Karri Forrest, you can enjoy a seated tasting, wines by the glass with local produce grazing boards or even bring your own picnic. A great space to bring family and even your furry friends.
The philosophy behind their wines and driving their decisions for them is a very classical and traditional one. They are focused on the classic varieties of Margaret River – Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. They are aiming to produce the wines in a very traditional, old world manner to allow for their own individual voices to be heard most clearly, not to be the bearers of a heavy winery fingerprint. Purity of fruit, balance, elegance and delicacy. These are all focus points for their production. Doing everything possible to achieve fruit quality at harvest as close to perfection as possible is the cornerstone of their fine wines. They work with leading growers located on favourable vineyard sites and do everything they can to ensure the fruit that arrives at the winery is in optimum condition.

So what does this mean exactly?
It means that they only work with indigenous yeasts which arrive on the skin of the grapes and bunches from the individual vineyard where they were harvested and then are encouraged to ferment those very same grapes. Through using the traditional technique of making a petit cuvee where a crate or two of perfect bunches, with not a blemish on them, are selectively harvested a week or so prior to harvest and crushed, in this case by hand, and a small and strong ferment begins. This highly active indigenous yeast ferment is added to the rest of the grapes when they arrive at the winery and allows for a sometimes slow to initiate wild ferment to begin far more rapidly. To more practical matters, all of their fruit is processed in a basket press. This is the gentlest way of pressing grapes as there is no tumbling of stalks and skins involved which can extract harsh elements from the grapes themselves. The white grapes are all basket pressed as whole bunches with no destemming occurring at all. The resulting juice, whilst being lower in yield than if you were to destem the fruit, runs from the press truly bright and clear and is immediately transferred to barrels for ferment.

The venue is stunning. It was so nice to sit with the view & wine tastings being brought out to you with a bit of background on the delicious wines. It’s clear the owners work very hard and take pride in it (as they should!) We also had the deluxe cheese platter! So good!! Worth every penny! We ended up buying a bottle of the rose. The lovely lady that served us was amazing, thank you so much ☺️

Wow! I think this is my favorite vineyard in the area in terms of wine, service and location. Basically everything important. The cellar door is super cute and you can sit and taste at the bar or you can sit on one of the benches outside overlooking the vineyard. The lady who works here has amazing knowledge and is incredibly passionate about the wine. Once you say which wines you want to taste you get a tray with the wines on it and some water, and you can taste the wines on your own pace. You can also pick a cheese and some crackers to have with it. I cannot wait to go back here and would recommend everyone going by here because the wines also taste insanely good!

Me and my partner both had the tasting wine for 10 dollar each, we ordered a sharing plate for 30 dollars and got to chose our own cheese! Very nice view with friendly staff as well Happy we went to this smaller, family owned bussiness instead of the big, busy places!

What a magical experience we had here. We were recommended Mr. Barval by the lovely lady who did our tasting at the vineyard down the road 'Leeuwin Estate' for their exceptional cheese platter- it was my partners birthday, he was hungry and she was right!! We were initially greeted by a lovely young lass who was such a vibe- a real free spirit. She explained the personalisation of the cheese platters and basically said "here's what we have to choose from, put as much or as little on as you like, we will make it work for you!". We picked our delicious local small goods selection and she sent us away with a glass of Chardonnay and said I'll be back in a jiffy with your cheese platter. We got comfy outside patting the dogs and having just an all round great time with the young lady and her boss brought the cheese platter out adorned with a little candle as they sang happy birthday to my partner!! It was just such a nice place and the people really made it. Can not recommend this venue highly enough. Great portion sizes, great wines and the best part? Two awesome dogs wandering around living their absolute best lives.
