HOLY COW!  The World’s Largest International Art Event “CowParade” Is Coming To Town!

Have you ever picked up a hitch hiking cow? Or spotted a bright blue cow sitting on a park bench, or perhaps one with a surfboard under its arm checking out the surf? No? Well you could soon! If you haven’t "herd", the internationally acclaimed CowParade, the most successful public art event in the world is setting its sights on our region!

CowParade organisers, the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association (AMRTA), are excited to have secured the rights to host the event. “Over 500 cities worldwide have applied for the rights to the event but only 50 cities have been successful in their application in nearly a decade of the event’s history,” AMRTA CEO Francine Errico said.

“Host cities have included prestigious places like Chicago, New York City, London, Tokyo, Prague and Paris and we hope to add the Margaret River region to its glamorous list!”

So what is all the fuss about? Simply, the cow is a universally beloved animal. The cow represents different things to different people around the world-she’s sacred, she’s historical, she connects us to our past-but the common feeling is one of affection. There is something magical about the cow that transcends throughout the world. She simply makes everyone smile.

But what is CowParade? Well a whole bunch of life-size fibre glass cows are hauled in and left in the hands of our talented local artists.

Once the cows are painted, sculpted, morphed and more they will be placed at various locations across the Cape including wineries, beaches, local businesses, iconic attractions and town centres. The cows will be around from March to June and plenty of people will travel far and wide to see them. The culmination of the four month event is a gala auction of the cows, where the proceeds will go to selected charities and regional projects.

On the wave of a successful 25-show tour from Broome to Margaret River last Spring, artist and musician Eli Wolfe is back on the road visiting remote and rural communities across Australia.

The new album is based on Eli‟s well-timbered vocal melodies and hypnotic acoustic sound. Traditional drums, bass and electric guitars were deliberately not used in his latest album, instead Eli had fun discovering percussive sounds and textures from the likes of a washing machine, a marching drum and from playing cement rendered walls, with a foot-stomp also called upon to help with rhythm duties.

Adding to Eli‟s detailed sound is double bass, cello, piano and an old organ which doubled as a bass by using its clunky foot pedals. With a brand new single, an upcoming album and a stack of shows, the Maton-endorsed guitarist has quite a journey ahead of him.

You can catch Eli Wolfe at a live show where you can pick up a special pre-release version of the single and album and enjoy some inspired music!

The last 3 years have been a whirlwind for brother and sister duo, Angus & Julia Stone.  Their debut album ‘A Book Like This’ released in 2007 glided easily into the hearts of Australians where it debuted top 10 on the national ARIA album chart and maintained a spot in the top 100 for over a year. In 2008 it earned the brother and sister duo 6 ARIA award nominations and was certified platinum, selling in excess of 80,000 copies.

Travelling has been an integral part of the Stone’s musical story so it’s not surprising they opted to record their new album “Down The Way” in a number of diverse locations around the globe; an old sawmill on the river banks of Fowey in Cornwall, a studio in Brooklyn, a water tank in Coolangatta, their second home - London - and Queens in New York.

“Down The Way” marks their debut as producers, taking full control of their sound without losing the spirit of what made the first record so special.  There has been a subtle shift of gear, represented by a growing confidence in their abilities as artists and the music follows suit as it flows easily through sparse and rich textured arrangements without losing any of its etherealness and charm.

“Down The Way” is thirteen lovingly crafted songs reflecting a myriad of emotions and another graceful step on a remarkable musical journey for Angus & Julia Stone.
